The Income Tax Department has made it easier for taxpayers to apply for and receive their PAN cards via email, thanks to the PAN 2.0 initiative. Whether you need a new PAN card, want to make updates, or simply wish to receive your e-PAN, this comprehensive guide explains everything you need to know. From NSDL to UTIITSL PAN cards, here’s how you can get your PAN delivered directly to your inbox.
PAN 2.0: What You Need to Know
Under the PAN 2.0 project, the Income Tax Department clarified that existing PAN cards without QR codes will remain valid. This clarification ensures that taxpayers can continue using their current PAN without any hassle. However, e-PAN will be sent to registered email addresses for free, and a small fee of ₹50 will apply for physical PAN cards within India. For international delivery, charges will be ₹15 plus actual India post charges.
How to Apply for a New PAN Card or Get a Duplicate PAN on Email?
To make the process smoother, taxpayers need to first determine whether their PAN card is issued by NSDL or UTIITSL. Based on the issuer, the procedure for obtaining an e-PAN differs. Below are the step-by-step instructions for both.
How to Get PAN from NSDL Website:
Step 1: Visit the official NSDL link to apply for e-PAN: NSDL e-PAN request.
Step 2: Enter your PAN, Aadhaar number (only for individuals), and date of birth. Click Submit.
Step 3: Verify your details and choose the method to receive an OTP for verification.
Step 4: Enter the OTP to authenticate the process. Make sure the OTP is entered within 10 minutes.
Step 5: After validation, you will be directed to the payment page (if applicable). If your PAN is newly issued or updated, you can receive your e-PAN free of cost. Otherwise, follow the payment procedure.
Step 6: If you wish to proceed with payment for a physical PAN card, select the mode of payment and confirm.
Step 7: Once payment is successful, your e-PAN will be delivered to your registered email ID within 30 minutes.
How to Get PAN from UTIITSL Website:
Step 1: Visit the official UTIITSL website for PAN card services: UTIITSL e-PAN Request.
Step 2: Enter your PAN, date of birth, and the captcha code. Click Submit.
Step 3: Check if an email ID is already linked to your PAN. If not, you can update it for free once the PAN 2.0 project is live.
Step 4: If your email ID is registered, your e-PAN will be sent to the email address associated with your PAN records. If the e-PAN was issued within the last month, it will be free.
Step 5: If your e-PAN was issued more than a month ago, you will need to pay ₹8.26 (inclusive of taxes) to download the e-PAN.
Step 6: Once payment is confirmed, the e-PAN will be sent to your email in PDF format.
Free e-PAN Delivery Limit and Charges
For PAN applications submitted through Protean (formerly NSDL) within the last 30 days, e-PAN will be sent to your email free of cost up to three times. After exhausting this limit, an online payment of ₹8.26 (inclusive of GST) is required to receive e-PAN on email.
What to Do if You Don’t Receive Your e-PAN?
If, after following the above steps, you don’t receive your e-PAN in your email inbox, you can reach out to Protean at tininfo@proteantech.in. Ensure you provide the payment details and any relevant information to expedite the process.
